Today we celebrate and thank the dedicated parishioners who teach our children in our PREP Program. We thank the parents who take their promise seriously of raising their children in the Catholic Faith. Both have an important role in our parish life. Today is Catechetical Sunday. Each year Catechetical Sunday has a unique theme. The 2025 Catechetical Sunday theme is “Always be ready to give an explanation...for a reason for your hope” (1 Pet 3:15)
What does the word “catechetical” mean? The root word “catechesis” is from a Greek word meaning “to echo or resound.” The role of every baptized person is to share and become witnesses of their faith. We thank and bless all those who have responded to God’s call to help parents in teaching the faith to their children.
On each Catechetical Sunday, we celebrate our Catechists. Anyone who teaches the Catholic Faith and shares the Church’s teachings to our children, are in a sense, Catechists. Parents and Godparents are also Catechists; they are the first and primary teachers of the faith for their children. Our Religious Education Program supplements and helps the parents in their role.
Since 1935 the Church recognizes and celebrates the gift that Catechists give to their parish, by volunteering their time and talents, for the education of children. Catechetical Sunday always takes place the third Sunday in September.
So I wish to thank the 34 Catechists and their helpers for the work that they do. We couldn’t do it without you.
I also have deep appreciation, gratitude and admiration for our Director of Religious Education, Mrs. Brenda Lattuca and her Administrative Assistant, Mrs. Lori Horgan. They spend long hours each year running a most excellent program for the 400+ children, the Catechists and parents. They are faith-filled ladies of the Church. One of the most important roles of a pastor is to teach. I couldn’t fulfill that role without them and all the Catechists. In our world today, there is such importance in forming young disciples who can witness to Christ with clarity, compassion, conviction, and hope in everyday life. In this Jubilee Year, it is a time for all Catholics to renew their faith, to seek forgiveness, and to reflect on the hope offered by Jesus Christ, who is our reason for hope.
Our New Sound System
Has your hearing improved? We have successfully installed our new sound system. It is state of the art, thanks to Monte Brothers Sound. The new system brings out the clarity of the voice, modulates the sound, it also has the capability to play music over the system through blue tooth technology. Again, we couldn’t do any of this without your weekly support of our parish through the Sunday collection and donations.
Thank you for your continued support of St. Margaret’s.
